Songwriting

There are a few different ways that you can pursue a career as a songwriter. A songwriter can try to get a job at a record label as a songwriter, or you can choose to stay a freelancer and write your own music to try to sell to an artist or record label. Another route would be to partner with an artist and write their songs for them for a portion of the earnings from the songs. A songwriter just doesn’t have to write songs for artists. They can also write songs for musicals and plays, or songs for jingles on advertisements.

Music Journalist

One of the most popular music careers in the writing field after songwriting is music journalism. A music journalist writes reviews, interviews, magazine articles, or press releases. Some journalists will strictly stick to music reviews, while others may do a little bit of everything. They can write for magazines, newspapers, or websites. Most music journalists will have inside sources to the latest and greatest in the music industry, as well as special privileges when it comes to music events and concerts.

These are just two examples of the several music careers that are available in the writing field. As you can see, songwriting is creative writing while a music journalist is more technical and opinionated. When pursuing your writing career in the music industry, you have to decide which type of writing that you are most interested in and then pick from the music careers available in that aspect of writing.
